Esmartcity Project Pilot Testing

Esmartcity pilot testing activities are advancing. In Greece the Industrial Systems Institute of the ATHENA Research and Innovation Center becomes a Smart Living Lab. The leading research institute on ICT for the industry is experimenting energy efficiency and Living Lab scenarios in its 300 sqm located in the Patras Science Park.

The project aims to optimize and test energy efficiency and smart urban living in buildings. The project will influence working space of 50 employees analyzing energy consumption in offices and labs. Each office of the building is fitted with leading-edge technology to analyze the site on real-time. The pilot will monitor and review indicators such as temperature, humidity, human presence, light, vibrations and sounds.

The first step towards enabling energy efficiency and savings is knowledge about energy consumption. It is generally not the case due to the fact that buildings are often cenrally managed. Smart devices and equipment, aggregated data and analytics can make buildings smarter. The living lab concept could be directly replicable in academic, research and other public buildings.
